Surah An-Naba'Mecquoise40Au nom d'Allah, le Bienfaiteur misericordieux What is it that they are questioning each other about?! 1[Is it] about the Great Tiding, 2the one about which they differ? 3No indeed! Soon they will know! 4No indeed! Soon they will know for once again! 5Did We not make the earth a resting place? 6and the mountains stakes? 7and create you in pairs? 8and make your sleep for rest? 9and make the night a covering? 10and make the day for livelihood? 11and build above you the seven mighty heavens? 12and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp? 13and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds, 14that We may bring forth with it grains and plants, 15and luxuriant gardens? 16Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst, 17the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups, 18and the sky will be opened and become gates, 19and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage. 20Indeed hell is in ambush, 21a resort for the rebels, 22to reside therein for ages, 23tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink, 24except boiling water and pus, 25a fitting requital. 26Indeed they did not expect any reckoning, 27and they denied Our signs mendaciously, 28and We have figured everything in a Book. 29So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment! 30Indeed a triumph awaits the Godwary: 31gardens and vineyards, 32and buxom maidens of a like age, 33and brimming cups. 34Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies 35—a reward and a sufficing bounty from your Lord, 36the All-beneficent, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. They will not be able to address Him 37on the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in an array: none shall speak except someone who is permitted by the All-beneficent and says what is rightful. 38That day is true for certain. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord. 39Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand—the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say, ‘I wish I were dust!’ 40Surah An-Nazi'atMecquoise46Au nom d'Allah, le Bienfaiteur misericordieuxBy those [angels] who wrest [the soul] violently, 1by those who draw [it] out gently, 2by those who swim smoothly, 3by those who, racing, take the lead, 4by those who direct the affairs [of creatures]: 5the day when the Quaker quakes 6and is followed by the Successor, 7hearts will be trembling on that day, 8bearing a humbled look. 9They will say, ‘Are we being returned to our earlier state? 10What, even after we have been decayed bones?!’ 11They will say, ‘This is, then, a ruinous return!’ 12Yet it will be only a single shout, 13and behold, they will be awake. 14Did you receive the story of Moses, 15when his Lord called out to him in the holy valley of Tuwa? 16[And said,] ‘Go to Pharaoh, for indeed he has rebelled, 17and say, ‘‘Would you purify yourself? 18I will guide you to your Lord, that you may fear [Him]?’’ ’ 19Then he showed him the greatest sign. 20But he denied, and disobeyed. 21Then he turned back, walking swiftly, 22and gathered [the people] and proclaimed, 23saying, ‘I am your exalted lord!’ 24So Allah seized him with the punishment of this life and the Hereafter. 25There is indeed a moral in that for someone who fears! 26Is your creation more prodigious or that of the heaven He has built? 27He raised its vault and fashioned it, 28and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon. 29Thereafter He spread out the earth, 30brought forth from it its water and pastures, 31setting firm the mountains, 32as a [place of] sustenance for you and your livestock. 33When the Greatest Catastrophe befalls 34—the day when man will remember his endeavours 35and hell is brought into view for those who can see— 36as for him who has been rebellious 37and preferred the life of this world, 38his refuge will indeed be hell. 39But as for him who is awed to stand before his Lord and restrains his soul from [following] desires, 40his refuge will indeed be paradise. 41They ask you concerning the Hour, “When will it set in, 42considering your frequent mention of it?” 43Its outcome is with your Lord. 44You are only a warner for those who are afraid it. 45The day they see it, it shall be as if they had not stayed [in the world] except for an evening or forenoon. 46Surah AbasaMecquoise42Au nom d'Allah, le Bienfaiteur misericordieuxHe frowned and turned away 1when the blind man approached him. 2And how do you know, maybe he would purify himself, 3or take admonition, and the admonition would benefit him! 4But as for someone who is wealthy, 5you attend to him, 6though you are not liable if he does not purify himself. 7But as for someone who comes hurrying to you, 8while he fears [Allah], 9you are neglectful of him. 10No indeed! These [verses of the Quran ] are a reminder 11—so let anyone who wishes remember— 12in honoured scriptures, 13exalted and purified, 14in the hands of envoys, 15noble and pious. 16Perish man! How ungrateful is he! 17From what did He create him? 18He created him from a drop of [seminal] fluid; then proportioned him. 19Then He made the way easy for him; 20then He made him die and buried him; 21and then, when He wished, resurrected him. 22No indeed! He has not yet carried out what He has commanded him. 23Let man consider his food: 24We pour down plenteous water [from the sky], 25then We split the earth making fissures in it 26and make the grain grow in it, 27as well as vines and vegetables, 28olives and date palms, 29and densely-planted gardens, 30fruits and pastures, 31as a sustenance for you and your livestock. 32So when the deafening Cry comes— 33the day when a man will evade his brother, 34his mother and his father, 35his spouse and his sons— 36each of them will have a task to keep him preoccupied on that day. 37Some faces will be bright on that day, 38laughing and joyous, 39and some faces on that day will be covered with dust, 40overcast with gloom. 41It is they who are the faithless, the vicious. 42Surah At-TakwirMecquoise29Au nom d'Allah, le Bienfaiteur misericordieuxWhen the sun is wound up, 1when the stars scatter, 2when the mountains are set moving, 3when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4when the wild beasts are mustered, 5when the seas are set afire, 6when the souls are assorted, 7when the girl buried-alive will be asked 8for what sin she was killed. 9When the records [of deeds] are unfolded, 10when the sky is stripped off, 11when hell is set ablaze, 12when paradise is brought near, 13then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself]. 14So I swear by the stars that return, 15the comets, 16by the night as it approaches, 17by the dawn as it breathes: 18it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle, 19powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne, 20one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well. 21Your companion is not crazy: 22certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon, 23and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen. 24And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan. 25So where are you going? 26It is just a reminder for all the nations, 27for those of you who wish to walk straight; 28but you will not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
