Surah Al-MulkMakiha30In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. Blessed is He in whose hands is all sovereignty, and He has power over all things. 1He, who created death and life that He may test you [to see] which of you is best in conduct. And He is the All-mighty, the All-forgiving. 2He created seven heavens in layers. You do not see any discordance in the creation of the All-beneficent. Look again! Do you see any flaw? 3Look again, once more. Your look will return to you humbled and weary. 4We have certainly adorned the lowest heaven with lamps, and made them [the means of pelting] missiles against the devils, and We have prepared for them a punishment of the Blaze. 5For those who defy their Lord is the punishment of hell, and it is an evil destination. 6When they are thrown in it, they hear it blaring, as it seethes, 7almost exploding with rage. Whenever a group is thrown in it, its keepers will ask them, ‘Did not any warner come to you?’ 8They will say, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we impugned [him] and said, ‘Allah did not send down anything; you are only in great error.’ 9And they will say, ‘Had we listened or applied reason, we would not have been among inmates of the Blaze.’ 10Thus they will admit their sin. So away with the inmates of the Blaze! 11Indeed for those who fear their Lord in secret there will be forgiveness and a great reward. 12Speak secretly, or do so openly, indeed He knows well what is in the breasts. 13Would He who has created not know? And He is the All-attentive, the All-aware. 14It is He who made the earth tractable for you; so walk on its flanks and eat of His provision, and towards Him is the resurrection. 15Are you secure that He who is in the sky will not make the earth swallow you while it quakes? 16Are you secure that He who is in the sky will not unleash upon you a rain of stones? Soon you will know how My warning has been! 17Certainly those who were before them had impugned [My apostles]; but then how was My rebuttal! 18Have they not regarded the birds above them spreading and closing their wings? No one sustains them except the All-beneficent. Indeed, He watches all things. 19Who is it that is your host who may help you, besides the All-beneficent? The faithless only dwell in delusion. 20Who is it that may provide for you if He withholds His provision? Indeed, they persist in defiance and aversion. 21Is he who walks prone on his face better guided, or he who walks upright on a straight path? 22Say, ‘It is He who created you, and made for you hearing, eyesight, and hearts. Little do you thank.’ 23Say, ‘It is He who created you on the earth, and toward Him you will be mustered.’ 24They say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?’ 25Say, ‘Its knowledge is only with Allah; I am only a manifest warner.’ 26When they see it brought near, the countenances of the faithless will be contorted, and [they will be] told, ‘This is what you were asking for!’ 27Say, ‘Tell me, whether Allah destroys me and those who are with me, or He has mercy on us, who will shelter the faithless from a painful punishment?’ 28Say, ‘He is the All-beneficent; we have faith in Him, and in Him do we trust. Soon you will know who is in manifest error.’ 29Say, ‘Tell me, should your water sink down [into the ground], who will bring you running water?’ 30Surah Al-QalamMakiha52In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.Nun. By the Pen and what they write: 1by your Lord’s blessing, you are not, crazy, 2and yours indeed will be an everlasting reward, 3and indeed you possess a great character. 4You will see and they will see, 5which one of you is crazy. 6Indeed your Lord knows best those who stray from His way, and He knows best those who are guided. 7So do not obey the deniers, 8who are eager that you should be flexible, so that they [too] may be flexible [towards you]. 9And do not obey any vile swearer, 10scandal-monger, talebearer, 11hinderer of all good, sinful transgressor, 12callous and, on top of that, baseborn 13—[who behaves in such a manner only] because he has wealth and children. 14When Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’ 15Soon We shall brand him on his snout. 16Indeed we have tested them just as We tested the People of the Garden when they vowed they would gather its fruit at dawn, 17and they did not make any exception. 18Then, a visitation from your Lord visited it while they were asleep. 19So, by dawn it was like a harvested field. 20At dawn they called out to one another, 21‘Get off early to your field if you have to gather [the fruits].’ 22So off they went, murmuring to one another: 23‘Today no needy man shall come to you in it.’ 24And they set out at early morning, [considering themselves] able to deprive [the poor of its fruit]. 25But when they saw it, they said, ‘We have indeed lost our way!’ 26‘No, it is we who have been deprived!’ 27The most upright among them said, ‘Did I not tell you, ‘‘Why do you not glorify [Allah]?’’ ’ 28They said, ‘Immaculate is our Lord! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’ 29Then they turned to one another, blaming each other. 30They said, ‘Woe to us! Indeed, we have been rebellious. 31Maybe our Lord will give us a better one in its place. Indeed we earnestly beseech our Lord.’ 32Such was their punishment; and the punishment of the Hereafter is surely greater, had they known. 33Indeed for the Godwary there will be gardens of bliss near their Lord. 34Shall We treat those who submit [to Us] as [We treat] the guilty? 35What is the matter with you? How do you judge! 36Do you possess a scripture in which you read 37that you shall have in it whatever you choose? 38Do you have a pledge binding on Us until the Day of Resurrection, that you shall indeed have whatever you decide? 39Ask them, which of them will aver [any of] that! 40Do they have any ‘partners’ [that they claim for Allah]? Then let them produce their partners, if they are truthful. 41The day when the catastrophe occurs and they are summoned to prostrate themselves, they will not be able [to do it]. 42With a humbled look [in their eyes], they will be overcast by abasement. Certainly, they were summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet sound. 43So leave Me with those who deny this discourse. We will draw them imperceptibly [into ruin], whence they do not know. 44I will grant them respite, for My devising is indeed sure. 45Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are weighed down with debt? 46Do they possess [access to] the Unseen, so that they write it down? 47So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, and do not be like the Man of the Fish who called out as he choked with grief. 48Had it not been for a blessing that came to his rescue from his Lord, he would surely have been cast on the bare shore, being blameworthy. 49So his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous. 50Indeed the faithless almost devour you with their eyes when they hear this Reminder, and they say, ‘He is indeed crazy.’ 51Yet it is just a reminder for all the nations. 52Surah Al-HaqqaMakiha52In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. The Besieger! 1What is the Besieger?! 2What will show you what is the Besieger?! 3Thamudand ‘Ad denied the Cataclysm. 4As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the Cry. 5And as for ‘Ad, they were destroyed by a fierce icy gale, 6which He clamped on them for seven gruelling nights and eight days, so that you could see the people there lying about prostrate as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees. 7So do you see any remaining trace of them? 8Then Pharaoh and those who were before him, and the towns that were overturned, brought about iniquity. 9They disobeyed the apostle of their Lord, so He seized them with a terrible seizing. 10Indeed when the Flood rose high, We carried you in a floating ark, 11that We might make it a reminder for you, and that receptive ears might remember it. 12When the Trumpet is blown with a single blast 13and the earth and the mountains are lifted and levelled with a single levelling, 14then, on that day, will the Imminent [Hour] befall 15and the sky will be split open—for it will be frail on that day— 16with the angels all over it, and the Throne of your Lord will be borne that day by eight [angels]. 17That day you will be presented [before your Lord]: none of your secrets will remain hidden. 18As for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say, ‘Here, take and read my book! 19Indeed I knew that I will encounter my account [of deeds].’ 20So he will have a pleasant life, 21in an elevated garden, 22whose clusters [of fruits] will be within easy reach. 23[He will be told]: ‘Enjoy your food and drink, for what you had sent in advance in past days [for your future life].’ 24But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he will say, ‘I wish I had not been given my book, 25nor had I ever known what my account is! 26I wish death had been the end of it all! 27My wealth did not avail me. 28My authority has left me.’ 29[The angels will be told:] ‘Seize him, and fetter him! 30Then put him into hell. 31Then bind him in a chain, seventy cubits in length. 32Indeed he had no faith in Allah, the All-supreme, 33and he did not urge the feeding of the needy, 34so he has no friend here today, 35nor any food except pus, 36which no one shall eat except the iniquitous.’ 37I swear by what you see 38and what you do not see: 39it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle 40and it is not the speech of a poet. Little is the faith that you have! 41Nor is it the speech of a soothsayer. Little is the admonition that you take! 42Gradually sent down from the Lord of all the worlds. 43Had he faked any sayings in Our name, 44We would have surely seized him by the right hand 45and then cut off his aorta, 46and none of you could have held Us off from him. 47Indeed it is a reminder for the Godwary. 48Indeed We know that there are some among you who deny [it]. 49And indeed it will be a [matter of] regret for the faithless. 50It is indeed certain truth. 51So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme. 52Surah Al-Ma'arijMakiha44In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.An asker asked for a punishment sure to befall 1—which none can avert from the faithless — 2from Allah, Lord of the lofty stations. 3The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day whose span is fifty thousand years. 4So be patient, with a patience that is graceful. 5Indeed they see it to be far off, 6and We see it to be near. 7The day when the sky will be like molten copper, 8and the mountains like [tufts of] dyed wool, 9and no friend will inquire about [the welfare of his] friend, 10[though] they will be placed within each other’s sight. The guilty one will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children, 11his spouse and his brother, 12his kin, which had sheltered him 13and all those who are upon the earth, if that might deliver him. 14Never! Indeed, it is a blazing fire, 15which strips away the scalp. 16It invites him, who has turned back [from the truth] and forsaken [it], 17amassing [wealth] and hoarding [it]. 18Indeed man has been created covetous: 19anxious when an ill befalls him 20and grudging [charity] when good comes his way 21—[all are such] except the prayerful, 22those who persevere in their prayers 23and there is a known share in whose wealth 24for the beggar and the deprived, 25and who affirm the Day of Retribution, 26and those who are apprehensive of the punishment of their Lord 27(there is indeed no security from the punishment of their Lord) 28and those who guard their private parts 29(apart from their spouses and their slave women, for then they are not blameworthy; 30but whoever seeks beyond that—it is they who are the transgressors) 31and those who keep their trusts and covenants, 32and those who are observant of their testimonies, 33and those who are watchful of their prayers. 34They will be in gardens, held in honour. 35What is the matter with the faithless that they scramble toward you, 36from left and right, in groups? 37Does each man among them hope to enter the garden of bliss? 38Never! Indeed, We created them from what they know. 39So I swear by the Lord of the easts and the wests that We are able 40to replace them with [others] better than them and We are not to be outmaneuvered. 41So leave them to gossip and play till they encounter the day they are promised: 42the day when they emerge from graves, hastening, as if racing toward a target, 43with a humbled look [in their eyes], overcast by abasement. That is the day they had been promised. 44Surah NuhMakiha28In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.Indeed We sent Noah to his people, [saying,] ‘Warn your people before a painful punishment overtakes them.’ 1He said, ‘O my people! Indeed, I am a manifest warner to you. 2Worship Allah and be wary of Him, and obey me, 3that He may forgive you some of your sins and respite you until a specified time. Indeed when Allah’s [appointed] time comes, it cannot be deferred, if you know.’ 4He said, ‘My Lord! Indeed, I have summoned my people night and day 5but my summons only increases their evasion. 6Indeed whenever I have summoned them, so that You might forgive them, they would put their fingers into their ears and draw their cloaks over their heads, and they were persistent [in their unfaith], and disdainful in [their] arrogance. 7Again I summoned them aloud, 8and again appealed to them publicly and confided with them privately, 9telling [them]: ‘‘Plead to your Lord for forgiveness. Indeed, He is all-forgiving. 10He will send for you abundant rains from the sky, 11and aid you with wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and provide you with streams. 12What is the matter with you that you do not look upon Allah with veneration, 13though He has created you in [various] stages? 14Have you not seen how Allah has created the seven heavens in layers, 15and has made therein the moon for a light and the sun for a lamp? 16Allah made you grow from the earth, with a [vegetable] growth. 17Then He makes you return to it, and He will bring you forth [without fail]. 18Allah has made the earth a vast expanse for you 19so that you may travel over its spacious ways.’’ ’ 20Noah said, ‘My Lord! They have disobeyed me, following someone whose wealth and children only add to his loss, 21and they have devised an outrageous plot. 22They say, ‘‘Do not abandon your gods. Do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, Ya‘uq and Nasr,’’ 23and already they have led many astray. Do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but error.’ 24They were drowned because of their iniquities, then made to enter a Fire, and they did not find any helpers for themselves besides Allah. 25And Noah said, ‘My Lord! ‘Do not leave on the earth any inhabitant from among the faithless. 26If You leave them, they will lead astray Your servants, and will beget none except vicious ingrates. 27My Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and the faithful men and women, and do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but ruin.’ 28Surah Al-JinnMakiha28In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. Say, ‘It has been revealed to me that a team of the jinn listened [to the Quran] and they said, “Indeed we heard a wonderful Quran, 1which guides to rectitude. Hence, we have believed in it and we will never ascribe any partner to our Lord. 2Exalted be the majesty of our Lord; He has taken neither any spouse nor son. 3The foolish ones among us used to speak atrocious lies concerning Allah. 4We thought that humans and jinn would never utter any falsehood concerning Allah. 5Indeed some persons from the humans would seek the protection of some persons from the jinn, thus only adding to their rebellion. 6They thought, just as you think, that Allah will not raise anyone from the dead. 7Indeed we made for the heaven and found it full of mighty sentries and flames. 8We used to sit in its positions to eavesdrop, but anyone listening now finds a flame waiting for him. 9We do not know whether ill is intended for those who are on the earth, or whether their Lord intends good for them. 10Among us some are righteous and some are otherwise: we are various sects. 11We know that we cannot frustrate Allah on the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by fleeing. 12When we heard the [message of] guidance, we believed in it. Whoever that has faith in his Lord will fear neither privation nor oppression. 13Among us some are Muslims and some of us are perverse.” ’ Those who submit [to Allah]—it is they who pursue rectitude. 14As for the perverse, they will be firewood for hell. 15If they are steadfast on the path [of Allah], We shall provide them with abundant water, 16so that We may test them therein, and whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will let him into an escalating punishment. 17The places of worship belong to Allah, so do not invoke anyone along with Allah. 18When the servant of Allah rose to pray to Him, they almost crowded around him. 19Say, ‘I pray only to my Lord, and I do not ascribe any partner to Him.’ 20Say, ‘I have no power to bring you any harm or good [of my own accord].’ 21Say, ‘Neither can anyone shelter me from Allah, nor can I find any refuge besides Him. 22[I have no duty] except to transmit from Allah, and [to communicate] His messages; and whoever disobeys Allah and His apostle, there will indeed be for him the fire of hell, to remain in it forever.’ 23When they see what they are promised, they will know who is weaker in supporters and fewer in numbers. 24Say, ‘I do not know if what you are promised is near, or if my Lord has set a [long] term for it.’ 25Knower of the Unseen, He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] Unseen to anyone, 26except to an apostle He approves of. Then He dispatches a sentinel before and behind him 27so that He may ascertain that they have communicated the messages of their Lord, and He encompasses all that is with them, and He keeps an count of all things. 28Surah Al-MuzzammilMakiha20In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.O you wrapped up in your mantle! 1Stand vigil through the night, except for a little [of it], 2a half, or reduce a little from that 3or add to it, and recite the Quran in a measured tone. 4Indeed soon We shall cast on you a weighty discourse. 5Indeed the watch of the night is firmer in tread and more upright in respect to speech, 6for indeed during the day you have drawn-out engagements. 7So celebrate the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself to Him with total dedication. 8Lord of the east and the west, there is no god except Him; so take Him for your trustee, 9and be patient over what they say, and distance yourself from them in a graceful manner. 10Leave Me [to deal] with the deniers, the opulent, and give them a little respite. 11Indeed with Us are heavy fetters and a fierce fire, 12and a food that chokes [those who eat it], and a painful punishment [prepared for] 13the day when the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will be like dunes of shifting sand. 14Indeed We have sent to you an apostle, to be a witness to you, just as We sent an apostle to Pharaoh. 15But Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16So, if you disbelieve, how will you avoid the day, which will make children white-headed, 17and wherein the sky will be rent apart? His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord. 19Indeed your Lord knows that you stand vigil for nearly two thirds of the night—or [at times] a half or a third of it—along with a group of those who are with you. Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you cannot calculate it [exactly], and so He was lenient toward you. So recite as much of the Quran as is feasible. He knows that some of you will be sick, while others will travel in the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and yet others will fight in the way of Allah. So recite as much of it as is feasible, and maintain the prayer and pay the zakat and lend Allah a good loan. Whatever good you send ahead for your souls you will find it with Allah [in a form] that is better and greater with respect to reward. And plead to Allah for forgiveness; indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful. 20Surah Al-MuddathirMakiha56In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.O you wrapped up in your mantle! 1Rise up and warn! 2Magnify your Lord, 3and purify your clothes, 4and keep away from all impurity! 5Do not grant a favour seeking a greater gain, 6and be patient for the sake of your Lord. 7When the Trumpet will be sounded, 8that will be a day of hardship, 9not at all easy for the faithless. 10Leave Me [to deal] with him whom I created alone, 11and furnished him with extensive means, 12[gave him] sons to be at his side, 13and facilitated [all matters] for him. 14Still he is eager that I should give him more. 15No indeed! He is an obstinate opponent of Our signs. 16Soon I will overwhelm him with hardship. 17Indeed he reflected and decided. 18Perish he, how he decided! 19Again, perish he, how he decided! 20Then he looked; 21then frowned and scowled. 22Then he walked away disdainfully, 23saying, ‘It is nothing but traditional sorcery. 24It is nothing but the speech of a human.’ 25Soon I will cast him into Saqar. 26And what will show you what is Saqar? 27It neither spares, nor leaves [anything]. 28It burns the skin. 29There are nineteen [keepers] over it. 30We have assigned only angels as keepers of the Fire, and We have made their number merely a stumbling block for the faithless, and so that those who were given the Book may be reassured, and the faithful may increase in [their] faith, and so that those who were given the Book and the faithful may not be in doubt, and so that the faithless and those in whose hearts is a sickness may say, ‘What did Allah mean by this description?’ Thus does Allah lead astray whomever He wishes and guides whomever He wishes. No one knows the hosts of your Lord except Him, and it is just an admonition for all humans. 31No indeed! By the Moon! 32By the night when it recedes! 33By the dawn when it brightens! 34Indeed they are one of the greatest [signs of God] 35—a warner to all humans, 36[alike] for those of you who like to advance ahead and those who would remain behind. 37Every soul is hostage to what it has earned, 38except the People of the Right Hand. 39[They will be] in gardens, questioning 40the guilty: 41‘What drew you into Hell?’ 42They will answer, ‘We were not among those who prayed. 43Nor did we feed the poor. 44We used to indulge in [profane] gossip along with the gossipers, 45and we used to deny the Day of Retribution 46until death came to us.’ 47So the intercession of the intercessors will not avail them. 48What is the matter with them that they evade the Reminder 49as if they were terrified asses 50fleeing from a lion? 51But everyone of them desires to be given unrolled scriptures [from Allah]! 52No! Indeed, they do not fear the Hereafter. 53No! It is indeed a reminder. 54So let anyone who wishes be mindful of it. 55And they will not be mindful unless Allah wishes. He is worthy of [your] being wary [of Him] and He is worthy to forgive. 56Surah Al-QiyamaMakiha40In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. I swear by the Day of Resurrection! 1And I swear by the self-critical soul! 2Does man suppose that We will not put together his bones [at resurrection]? 3Yes indeed, We are able to [re]shape [even] his fingertips! 4Indeed, man desires to go on living viciously. 5He asks, ‘When will be this “day of resurrection”?!’ 6But when the eyes are dazzled, 7the moon is eclipsed, 8and the sun and the moon are brought together, 9that day man will say, ‘Where is the escape [from this day]?’ 10No indeed! There will be no refuge! 11That day the [final] goal will be toward your Lord. 12That day man will be informed about what [works] he had sent ahead [to the scene of judgement] and [the legacy that he had] left behind. 13Indeed, man is a witness to himself, 14though he should offer excuses [to justify his failings]. 15Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it. 16Indeed it is up to Us to put it together and to recite it. 17And when We have recited it, follow its recitation. 18Then, its exposition [also] lies with Us. 19No! Indeed, you love this transitory life 20and forsake the Hereafter. 21Some faces will be fresh on that day, 22looking to their Lord, 23and some faces will be scowling on that day, 24knowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine. 25No indeed! When it reaches up to the collar bones 26and it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’ 27and he knows that it is the [time of] parting, 28and each shank clasps the other shank, 29that day he shall be driven toward your Lord. 30He neither confirmed [the messages of Allah], nor did he pray, 31but denied [them] and turned away, 32and went back swaggering to his family. 33So, woe to you! Woe to you! 34Again, woe to you! Woe to you! 35Does man suppose that he has been abandoned to futility? 36Was he not a drop of emitted semen, 37and then a clinging mass? Whereat He created and proportioned [him], 38and made of him the two sexes, male and female. 39Is not [someone like] that able to revive the dead? 40Surah Al-InsanMadineh31In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.Has there been a period of time for man when he was not anything worthy of mention? 1Indeed We created man from the drop of a mixed fluid so that We may put him to test, so We endowed with hearing and sight. 2Indeed We have guided him to the way, be he grateful or ungrateful. 3Indeed for the faithless We have prepared chains, iron collars, and a blaze. 4Indeed the pious will drink from a cup seasoned with Kafur, 5a spring where Allah’s servants will drink, making it gush forth as they please. 6They fulfill their vows and fear a day whose ill will be widespread. 7For the love of Him, they feed the needy, the orphan and the prisoner, 8[saying,] ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We desire no reward from you, nor thanks. 9Indeed we fear a frowning and fateful day from our Lord.’ 10So Allah saved them from that day’s ills and graced them with freshness [on this faces] and joy [in their hearts]. 11He rewarded them for their patience with a garden and [garments of] silk, 12reclining therein on couches, without facing any [scorching] sun, or [biting] cold. 13Its shades will be close over them and its clusters [of fruits] will be hanging low. 14They will be served around with vessels of silver and goblets of crystal 15—crystal of silver— [from] which they will dispense in a precise measure. 16They will be served therein with a cup of a drink seasoned with Zanjabeel, 17from a spring in it named Salsabeel. 18They will be waited upon by immortal youths, whom, were you to see them, you will suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19As you look on, you will see there bliss and a great kingdom. 20Upon them will be cloaks of green silk and brocade and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them to drink a pure drink. 21[They will be told]: ‘This is your reward, and your efforts have been well-appreciated.’ 22Indeed We have sent down to you the Quran in a gradual descent. 23So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord and do not obey any sinner or ingrate from among them, 24and celebrate the Name of your Lord morning and evening, 25and worship Him for a watch of the night and glorify Him the night long. 26Indeed they love this transitory life, and disregard a heavy day that is ahead of them. 27We created them and strengthened their joints, and We will replace them with others like them whenever We like. 28This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord. 29But you will not wish unless it is willed by Allah. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise. 30He admits whomever He wishes into His mercy, and He has prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers. 31Surah Al-MursalatMakiha50In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.By the [angelic] emissaries sent successively, 1by those who sweep along like gale, 2by those who publish [the Divine messages] far and wide, 3by those who separate [the truth from falsehood] distinctly, 4by those who inspire [God’s] remembrance, 5as exemption or warning: 6what you are promised will surely befall. 7When the stars are blotted out 8and the sky is cleft, 9when the mountains are scattered [like dust] 10and time is set for the apostles [to bear witness] 11—for what day has [all] that been set [to occur]? 12For the Day of Judgement! 13And what will show you what is the Day of Judgement!? 14Woe to the deniers on that day! 15Did We not destroy the former generations, 16[and] then made the latter ones follow them? 17That is how We deal with the guilty. 18Woe to the deniers on that day! 19Have We not created you from a base fluid, 20[and] then lodged it in a secure abode 21until a known span [of time]? 22Then We determined; and how excellent determiners We are! 23Woe to the deniers on that day! 24Have We not made the earth a receptacle 25for the living and the dead, 26and set in it lofty [and] firm mountains, and given you agreeable water to drink? 27Woe to the deniers on that day! 28[The faithless will be told:] ‘Proceed toward what you used to deny! 29Proceed toward the triple-forked shadow, 30neither shady nor of any avail against the flames. 31Indeed it throws up [giant] sparks like castles, 32[bright] like yellow camels. 33Woe to the deniers on that day! 34This is a day wherein they will not speak, 35nor will they be permitted to offer excuses. 36Woe to the deniers on that day! 37‘This is the Day of Judgement. We have brought you together with the former generations. 38If you have any stratagems [left], try them out against Me!’ 39Woe to the deniers on that day! 40Indeed the Godwary will be amid shades and springs 41and [enjoying] such fruits as they desire. 42[They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [a reward] for what you used to do. 43Thus do We reward the virtuous.’ 44Woe to the deniers on that day! 45‘Eat and enjoy a little! You are indeed guilty.’ 46Woe to the deniers on that day! 47When they are told, ‘Bow down [in prayer],’ they do not bow down! 48Woe to the deniers on that day! 49So what discourse will they believe after this? 50
